Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's
war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars"
defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make
the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an
application of science be successful? Is a militarized space
inevitable, necessary or impossible?

So much good could come from careful, honest, perceptive dealing
- - and opening up of channels of communication - at all levels.
I'd like to point out (and face to face, I'd like a chance to
further explain) that clear's safer.

RShow55 and lchic:
And why should your opinion have the force that you purport to
have. You waste time and bandwidth with this self styled World
Leadership paradigm. If you had the hootspa,{sic}, you'd be the
leader. All you are is a frustrated wannabe.
It's Memorial Day weekend. I'll spend the quiet moments
remembering the sacrifices made by American men and women who fought
and died to make the WORLD free from tyranny.
lchic. You might read about the story of young George Bush in
WWII when he laid aside all manner of privilege and fought and
nearly died for his country. What have you done, except blow off a
bunch of steam?

Yes, Mazza, it is important that we remember those who fought.
There are other things to remember, as well -- among them, that
George Bush's father was very much involved with, and made a lot of
money in, the financing of Nazi Germany - something on the record.
Since then, the Bush record has involved a lot of questionable
dealing -- the Enron association is by no means untypical.
The level of feel for propriety exemplified in http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/05/politics/05CARL.html
-- would indicate a "culture" where thoughts of accountability, for
either facts or money, would be almost futile, wouldn't you think?
I wonder how many enlisted men, asked to risk their lives, proud
of their country, could read "Elder Bush in Big GOP Cast Toiling
for Top Equity Firm" http://www.nytimes.com/2001/03/05/politics/05CARL.html
without being ashamed?

Have a good Memorial Day weekend. I'll do the same.
. . .
It is not unpatriotic to ask about these things -- and it
is reasonable for people, all over the world, to ask for honest,
open, explainable, law abiding conduct, and honor, from the
United States of America .

An irreverent left-leaning German newspaper published a blank
front page on Friday under the headline "Bush's historic speech" to
mock the U.S. president's address in the Reichstag on Thursday. http://www.reuters.com/news_article.jhtml?type=humannews&StoryID=1008526

Memorial Day Tribute
I know the 'unknown soldier' he soldiers-on
Walking the mine field he kicks over lies
those breathing he shoots in the
head
Dead! Dead! Dead!
He polishes truth until it mirrors and
reflects sunlight's sparkle
Over his shoulder He watches For Spies!
I know the 'unknown soldier' He soldiers-on
In his gun-sights
PEACE! PEACE! PEACE!
