Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's
war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars"
defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make
the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an
application of science be successful? Is a militarized space
inevitable, necessary or impossible?

If some of the things Moore said in that book about nuclear
weapons and disarmament were known , beyond question -- and
technical issues related were known beyond question -- a
great deal might focus. If these facts were focused and widely know,
much would get better. But getting conventions estabilshed for
closure on matters of fact is still a challenge.
For a while, I've been concerned about getting some of my own
situation established - MD1236 rshow55

I've been asking "how to get some things things to closure?"
Moore could help, if he could be interested. I'll be trying to
contact him.
If I can get some things about my background checked, well enough
to permit me to function - a lot seems possible, and cooperative
players seem to be around.

Key challenges, key circumstances, and key questions.
To answer those questions - which could be done in the open
literature -- and to do it to closure -- would be to do something
new, and to establish patterns that could be useful for peace, and
for other things, as well.

4/28/02 5:25pm on "don't know to WHERE to move" it is at
least clear, looking at a map, that the settlers have to move
-- and Friedman, for all he may be biased in spots, says it clearly.
If the situation could be laid out carefully in detail (and at
some stages, that means connecting the relevant dots "all at once")
a lot else might clarify, too.

Almarst:
Why is the United States a "super power"? Why is the United
States the "lone" super power today? Many of the postings at this
forum have delved into and rehashed policies and politics of the
20th Century which have shaped today's wolrd. But they CANNOT, I
repeat CANNOT, be replayed.
There is an outline for societal evolution which might work. The
book is called "The Millenial Project - Colonizing the Galaxy in
Eight Easy Steps" by Marshall T. Savage. Robert, you've voiced some
interesting theories about energy, rsources and possibly the effects
that might occur if certain policies were implemented, (your movie
project?). The cover quote by Arthur C. Clark who wrote the
introduction is, "I am completely awed and I don't awe easily..."
Robert since your forte is math and technology this is probably a
must read for you.

What's done is done - but the future is subject to choices.
Mazza, I may look at "The Millineal Project" - - - But I'm more
interested in easy projects -- like figuring out logical structures
that make dealmaking better - - - of sorting out relatively simple
problems -- such as solving global warming on this planet,
and getting the energy needs for human beings on this planet
well handled.

My eyes are giving out -- reading the great cites on this thread
alone . . . and thanks, Mazza .
I'm also trying to sort out some other things - and having
problems with complexity, and courage as well. MD1228 rshow55
