Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's
war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars"
defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make
the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an
application of science be successful? Is a militarized space
inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Change is a continual process. The redneck-backlash in France
relates to people believing in the myth of a past Utopia ... rather
than looking to the challenge of integrating and bedding into their
community those new peoples - they need - to assist the progress of
their economy.
Renewal and change are continuous:

Lunarchic.
Your suggestions look correct. But not too many examples of
success can be shown.
BTW. Sorry for the new identity. It's not my own choice;)

2020 - is VISIONary .. looking to the future with eyes
focused; looking to 2020 over these coming decades - with the
implicit promise that you are moving fowards/onwards/upwards via
excellent strategic planning.

The idea was to put 'models' up .. the success relates to context

What Day Is It? By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN Isn't it April 24,
2002?
But do we all understand the meaning of 'when' http://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/24/opinion/24FRIE.html
""Someone should tell the European fools who now
rush to protect Mr. Arafat that when this intifada
started it was directed partly at his corrupt leadership, but he
redirected it all onto Israel — "" Isn't when actually june67 ?
Does Friedman understand the meaning of 'when' !

FISK
The first body was hanging upside down, one grey left foot
tied to the electricity pylon with wire, his right leg hanging at
an obscene angle, his head lolling below what remained of a black
shirt.
This was Moussa Arjoub of Doura village. The second body was
infinitely more terrible, a butcher's carcass; again, hanging by a
left leg, but this time his almost naked torso was riven with stab
marks and holes ... Brutalised by war, a savage mob turns
on its own By Robert Fisk in Hebron 24 April 2002 http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/story.jsp?story=288328

You can always find more context -- in an endless regress.
Questions of "what matters?" are important -- but to use
them, the question "and how much do the things involved matter?" has
to be answered, too. Language alone can't judge weights, because
language, standing alone, isn't quantitative. A time comes where
there has to be judgement.
