    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

What's happening here?I thought we put Wen Ho Lee in Solitary confinement because we had indications that the Chinese had our latest ICBM warhead technology and could use it on thier missiles to provide a multiple warhead capability on each of thier missiles. Are we really going to send the President to china to say that we "have no objection to thier plans to build up its small fleet of nuclear missiles" and that it is OK if they need to resume testing because we also need to resume underground testing? This sounds like some kind of nightmarish logic that certainly was not coordinated outside of the White House staff. I thought that the Chinese limited ICBM threat was included in our need for a missile defense system? Isn't the PRC considered to be just as much a rogue nation as N. Korea or Iraq? WE need some more help in understanding this logic and so do our representatives in the Senate and House of Reps. before such a radical(self defeating) doctrine is officially presented to the Chinese and the rest of the world. Please Mr. President.

HELSINKI, Finland (AP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin began his first state visit to Finland Sunday and is expected meet with officials here to discuss border cooperation, and European Union and NATO expansion.

Putin and his wife Lyudmila were whisked away from Turku Airport, 100 miles west of Helsinki, to Kultaranta - President Tarja Halonen's summer residence - for talks. ..... During Putin's visit, agreements will be signed on anti-monopoly measures, and medical and business cooperation.

Earlier this week, Putin - a frequent visitor to Finland before becoming president - told Finnish YLE television in Moscow he had fond memories of the country.

``For me, it is like home,'' he said. http://www.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/International/0,3561,1145504,00.html

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - In what was seen here as an attempt to influence a key vote in the South Korean parliament, North Korea proposed Sunday to resume as soon as possible talks with the South that have been on hold since March.

The proposal, which amounted to a policy reversal, came a day before Chinese President Jiang Zemin was to begin a three-day visit to North Korea, the first by a Chinese leader in nine years. Chinese officials said Jiang was to urge North Korea to reopen dialogue with the South. http://www.guardian.co.uk/breakingnews/International/0,3561,1145238,00.html

Kyoto 24 July ^

Seems the USA, with radar assisted night_dreaming, is the sleeping giant of the piece these days. One recalls in 'stories' how a sleeping giant would be tolerated, whereas awakened he was feared. There's a parallel re the US. They sleep their way through much of the international happening, then, not having been proactive and negotiating ... situations blow out, and the USA resorts to it's terror_blow_up mentality.
