    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

"..."Gisterme , is there any substance to the lasar based weapons programs?"

I feel I asked a fair question --- and I have to feel that gisterme knows the answer, but does not like the answer..."

Robert, :-)

You're a master at overlooking the obvious! For a person who solves differential equations in his head, you're sure weak when it comes to high-scool level trigonometry. What do you think all those posts that show how energy delivery, tracking and aiming can be done with HST and THIEL level technology were about? You challenged me to show that those things are not miracles based on public domain information. I did. That's what I mean by boring, Robert. You just go on as if nothing had been said. Same scenery over and over again. Of course, the more times one sees the same barn go by in the background, the less convincing the illusion. You're the one who doesn't like the answers, Robert, or else you don't know enough to tell when your questions have been answered.

One last thing...neither you nor I know who reads this thread. But you said "with approval" when you accused me of being "staffed" by the Bush administration. Then there was some babble about "deniability". I'll tell you, for the last time, Robert, I have nothing to do with those folks, I don't know them except by public information and if they know me it's only by what I've written on forums. There's obviously a vast gulf between what you "think" and the truth on this point.

I do hope that the president continues to lead from the front rather than stepping back and pretending his job is some kind of a popularity contest.

gisterme, out.

If all you have is Hubble Space Telescope optics - with real controls -- you can't make space based lasar anti missile systems work.

With the thermal stresses in your chemical lasars, which also have mixing problems, you don't have any chance at all of getting to HST accuracy -- and you need much more.

Resolving binary stars is nice to do, and useful --- but not relevant for middile defense targeting purposes.

And, with coatings that the contractors have known about, and used, that are inexpensive, and based on old physics, any missile, or warhead can be made *** IMMUNE *** from lasar weapons.

And the contractors HAVE to have known it.

You send me a lot of references -- printed out, a lot of paper. Impressive in a way, perhaps, but without the quantitative information, or with incomplete and deceptively chosen quantitative information. And you expect me to be snowed by this incomplete, misleading and evasive record -- and expect me to say that answers the questions that matter.

Let me repeat my question, having read your "answer" just above

" ..."Gisterme , is there any substance to the lasar based weapons programs?"

I feel I asked a fair question --- and I have to feel, more than ever, that gisterme knows the answer, but does not like the answer...

The pattern of gisterme's answer is well schooled -- it is built to interface with a "culture of lying" set up so that nothing that really matters can be checked.

Paul H. Weaver -- a man with plain connections to the right wing of American government circles -- wrote a profound book that relates to the patterns gisterme interfaces with here:

Here's a beautiful quote -- and fine advice

If the Russians trusted us to act differently from the way we acted during the "Cold War" (more our war than theirs) they there would be fine opportunities for peace. Dialog in this thread, from almarst , expresses that again and again.

Trust , and issues of reliable information flows, are crucial. . . . MD6439 rshowalter 7/2/01 8:27pm

Things need to be checked. The situation is corrupt. Gisterme , you can be quite sure that if a time comes for careful checking - - I'll be ready to submit to public examination of anything I've said -- any argument I've made.

gisterme , will you be?

And if not, how is your behavior distinguished from treason ?

For the life of me, I can't see how you can say what you say, and evade what you evade, and not be ashamed.
