Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans
for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be
limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI
all over again?

almarst , I agree -- but the cost, not only to the rest of
the world, but the the US, too, for maintaining our agressive
posture is prohibitive.
Now, going back and forth, you and I have agreed, on this dry run
basis, provisionally, that if other interdependent things were
satisfactory we could get rid of nuclear weapons. That's a good
start -- because we're laying the logic involved out -- so that it
can be focused, and gotten to fit cases for the leaders involved.
But as of now, the Bush administration appears, either by
intention or unwittingly, to be moving in precisely the opposite
direction.
And this thread is discussing the right things -- because it is
misinformation and wrong assumptions that are causing the
mistakes to occur (and that's true whether there's fraud and treason
involved, as I personally suspect, or whether it is just a "screw
up.")
If the US would change its behavior -- in ways that are in its
own interest -- we could have real peace.
It wouldn't be difficult - and the US, and the whole world,
would be both safer and richer.

thanks. I want, very much, to live in a better country, and a
better world.
I'd even like a world where I could use my training. I got some
very inconvenient and arduous training, as a young man, that I
thought would let me solve some problems. And I'd like a chance to
solve some.

What have I said that is not in the national interest?
I'D LIKE TO HEAR AN ANSWER THAT CAN STAND THE LIGHT OF DAY
.
In light of the dialog since, I'd like to repeat the question.

And I'd like to repeat it in the context of other doubts, raised
by a man who definitely cares about the best interests of the United
States.
A Memo From Osama By THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN http://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/26/opinion/26FRIE.html
Looking at the situation as a whole, and trying to weigh the
evidence I can see, including my interpretation of gisterme's
response, I have to ask:
" "Is missile defense crazy?
Or is it motivated in large part by fraud. - Fraud perhaps
amounting to $500-$1000 for each and every American. --
Fraud that can best be described in terms of treason -- that is,
gross disloyalty, to the real interests of the United States of
America.

By people who've been telling so many lies, on so many subjects,
for so long, that the bristle at the idea of being checked.
(Yes, I make mistakes too, sometimes -- and like to get them
corrected -- go ahead and check me, too -- but let's look at the
importance of the mistakes -- and how much difference the mistakes
make -- and how much effort there is to get at the truth.)
