Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

I visit this site every now and then to see if anyone has contributed any thoughts in the ABM question. Not recently, I see. Seems to be a non-stop sermon/soliloquy by the Rev. Showalter. With many insightful observations, but what's it got to do with ABM?

'.....maybe it's not the death of the case model at HBS. But HBS professor Joseph L. Badaracco Jr.'s MBA course The Moral Leader uses works of literature instead of case studies to teach leadership....' What would be the literary-reading-list for improved international peace and understanding?

Nothing. Kinda pointless since he will rapidly bury it. But the ticket seems to be the boost phase intercept.

Apparantly, very easy to do with off the shelf stuff. The booster is slow, fragile, and glowing red hot. Not to mention ballistic, which stands for sitting duck.

This can be done with existing satellites and off the shelf rockets. The Russians will probably build the rockets.

And the boost phase is where lasers are most effective. But that will take 5 years or more to become operational.

Some mid course intercepts too, but at a level that is no threat to Russia.

Looks like they have pretty much figured out the deal. Just negotiating on price.

Conflict of Interest:

One of the Bwsh team with a quarter of a million dollars in Intel shares - that he SHOULD dispose of, to avoid conflict of interest - is STILL WAITING for a LETTER to be sent him, so he doesn't have to pay TAX on the shares when he sells them.

If it takes a government department over SIX months to send this guy a letter ... there's either corruption or incompetence!

On the New Hour the Paul Journalist from the Wall-st-Journal couldn't see the conflict of interest aspect. Raises a question re 'ethics and the press'.
