Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans
for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be
limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI
all over again?

Back. Looked at the news.
It seems to me a fine time for getting many world problems
solved. People are flexible (and that's true, to a significant
extent, of the Bush administration). People know they have a mess.
And they care.
The extent of the effort on this thread illustrates well how much
some people care.
I'll be getting some links, to directories, and lists of postings
linked to NYT stories, in case anyone wants a sense of how much
effort has been extended by people who have some sharp differences,
but some common ground as well.
I believe that the chances of real peace are getting
better, because of communication patterns, made possible by the
internet, illustrated by this thread.

Much progress by May 8th, by a distinguished and hardworking cast
of "stand ins" simulating "Putin" and "Clinton" and "a senior Bush
administation advisor" -- with efforts that have continued.
Here are directories of very extensive postings.

With a KEY concession for nuclear and total military
accomodation. Even full disarmament might be possible (on this "dry
run" basis) but things are mutually dependent.

almarstel_2001 , this forum's "Vladimr Putin

person samples the many posts in these linked directories, at
random, I think that person would be impressed at the intellectual
quality, and the quantity, of almarstel_2001's attention to
