Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans
for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be
limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI
all over again?

It does seem to be getting much more ugly The USA has turned
their backs on the(Joy.you.to) Leaders from both sides. Now it
will be missiles of mob and political partys USA instead of
working to help woman and children of USA Simply turn away ,how
much more ugly... I guess the woman in USA will turn to foreign
support as a very smart lady, lunarchik had suggested. The world
needs to get their act together Right away for world peace or else
there may be a end to the earth. kaboom. I will reseach your links
robert and chik. thank you....have also contacted a friend

Thanks. Aesthetic and moral issues matter a lot and are very
practical. rshowalt

9/25/00 7:36am Human actions work best according to the
following pattern:
" Get scared .... take a good look ..... get organized .....
fix it .... recount so all concerned are "reading from the same page
...... go on to other things."
Perhaps we are making progress on the first two steps of the
pattern --- maybe, within the world's real limits, thing are moving
as they should.
I hope so, and think there's reason to keep working.
Pieces like Friedman's today give me some hope.

In addion some disturbing information passed my way on the global
warming and enviroment forumn, it appears the leaders are plotting
to blow up.. That girl ,what was her name? Joy.you.to I guess they
were trying to force her into some type of illegal activitie?
Prostitution? She wouldnt comply ..so now both sides.. Repubs and
her friends???The democrats turned on her to, today they plan on
sending a missile to terminate her. Have you noticed a lot of that
going around? Well robert it was nice of you to provide links for
her to contact the news media in the other countries. I read the
science poets thread and it is certainly a horrible ordeal these
people have put her though. I wonder why NY Times does not cover it?
I bet washington post would... As I said before we need to do away
with all these missiles that kill people. isnt it better to work for
world peace?

Nice reporting from an ace here. If the Chinese and Americans are
inflicting pain in each other by actually saying what they think --
yet hanging on to continue to talk -- maybe that's hopeful.
U.S.-China Collision Talks End With Need for More Talk by
ELISABETH ROSENTHAL http://www.nytimes.com/2001/04/20/world/20CHIN.html
" The talks come during a particularly tense week
in American-Chinese relations — a time when both sides, while
acknowledging the need to get along, possess no reserve of good
will to gloss over differences.
I found that comment profoundly right, and constructive placed
as it was in the TIMES.
" As it was, the talks nearly came to an abrupt
halt after Wednesday's two-hour session, as Bush administration
officials in Washington complained loudly that the Chinese were
grandstanding.
The painful fact is that the Chinese want to discuss issues that
MUST be resolved, if the two countries are to get along well. As of
now, threatening each other with nuclear weapons seems easier -- but
talk ought to be, if not cheap, inexpensive enough to be preferable
to continued, damaging, undiscussed hatreds.

Yes We tried to talk to the leaders But they ignore us If I
read it right in global warming, and enviroment, cantabb and applez
speak of bush pushing the death of joy.you.to with missiles and gore
going along with it. why? How will this effect his furture image as
a powerful leader that backs off from world peace with the Chinse? I
am sorry for all the trouble we have caused the people in china.they
are good people. I think we Americans need to work with them and the
russians to establish better relations or else like I said Bush will
kill innocent woman and children...And the democrats will sit and
watch.
The end is near robert.

servzone0 , THE NEW YORK TIMES and PEOPLE'S
DAILY share some of the same manifest virtues, and both do great
service to their countries. For both papers, there is some care
about how they spend their ink --- and there are many delicate
decisions. And sometimes it works out superbly: rshowalter

Maybe, though the end seems close, there may be a way to say
"not yet." http://www.wisc.edu/rshowalt/sermon.html
