Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans
for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be
limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI
all over again?

TED TURNER - was offered a 30% share in MTV Moscow.
Not sure of the format of that MTV ... don't know how much
'current affairs/news' gets to air ... suspect that MTV is mainly
music videos. Great for Gym workouts
... perhaps the 'next' big tv-shopping exercise machine or
torture-exercise-RACK might eminate from Russia.

Person-to-Person
interaction is paramount.

Great thead ! And person to person interactions, which are
essential between nations, are destroyed by "unilateralism"
-- an elementary fact that seems to have escaped President Bush --
to the detriment and shame of the whole nation.

Interesting breakages indeed. A web of lies, when it breaks,
especially after it is frayed enough that key players at CIA start
dying -- may be brittle indeed. "bull" above is worth reading
carefully. So is the whole thread - right to the end.

High quality discussion here. I wish we could pull
in some more faces to share the good points.
Yes, too bad Putin isn't posting here. But in fact the
suggestion that he is is ludicrous, and is likely to cause people to
dismiss Mr. Showalter without even looking at the content.

Somebody with pretty good staff backing is posting here as
almarst_2001 -- your suggestion that it is "ludicrous" that
it is Putin, or someone close to him, is just bald assertion.
I may perhaps be entirely wrong, in an assumption that I've made,
looking at consistency relationships. You might look at them,
too.
You can judge for yourself. And explain to me how what I said is
inconsistent with what is here.
I've often been wrong, just as other people are wrong -- and I'm
subject to correction. Based on argument and evidence.
Is almarst_2001 who he's claimed to be -- a person who
left Russia at 24, who spend 14 years in Israel, and who now resides
in Boston . . . well, maybe, but if so, he's doing an interesting
service -- setting out what seem to be Russian points of view, on
interesting issues.
Attacks on credibility are essential ways to close off
discussion, of course. And I've had my share of such attacks.
In large measure, my credibility will hinge on my technical work.
And if that is well established, the worth of this thread may be
significantly augmented. There's some progress in that regard since
http://www.wisc.edu/rshowalt/klinerec
.
Let me get a posting dealing with some of that progress . . .
