    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

This was a typo in 1697:

"but conspiracy arguments explain a lot, and are not well supported ..."

I meant to say

"but conspiracy arguments explain a lot, and are now well supported . . . "

If true, how do you explain even such relatively trivial things as a claims by Respublicans about a damage to US national securty done by Clinton's deals with China?

Mostly just politics for internal consumption. But not completely. After the Chinese people erected a statue of liberty in Tinamin square, the Chinese Gov't has been engaged in a full court press to teach hatred of America/Europe to the Chinese people. Even resorting to blatently racist stuff like calling us "big noses" on TV. Looks like we have decided that we won't continue to turn the other cheek. If they persist in teaching the Chinese people to hate us, we will teach the American people to hate them.

It is hard to believe the US continued war in Vietnam for so long because the public supported it.

I can remember the troops chasing us across the campus. There were obviously strong power groups in the US that were against it. My personal opinion is that the KGB tricked us into doing such an evil and stupid thing.

And I dought there was any justification for the bombing of Serbia and Kosovo for "humanitarian" reasons. It even did not got approved by Senate.

Well yes, of course, the Serbia thing is your motivation. The Serbian people are free. They are no longer the pariah of Europe. They once again have the respect they so richly deserve. They are going to join the rest of Europe in peace and prosperity. Rejoice. Get over it.

It is worth mentioning that the Queen of England knows enough that she'd not get very worked up about a minor adultry - especially limited to phone conversations and oral sex. Lying to the public, on such a matter would be unfortunate, but not especially serious.

Perjury would be more serious, and she might think Clinton deserved a month of two in jail for that - as I do. ( The best thing that could possibly happen to him now, would be to agree to that, and square a wrong.)

But imperilling the world, and destroying the hopes of nations, and many lives, stealing huge amounts of money, and corrupting a great nation is out of comparison worse.

And appearances are, that that is just what has happened and continues now, with a "military industrial complex" that Eisenhower warned of, run well out of control.

There is no reason to think of either the Russian of the Chinese as angels.

Both have done things, many things, that make a person want to turn his head away.
