Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click
"rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for
on this thread.
Some basic questions have to be asked. For example - who is
the bully? Who is defending peace, stability, and order?
New European Document Opposes Using Force Against
Iraq By ELAINE SCIOLINO http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/24/international/worldspecial/24CND-FRAN.html
PARIS, Feb. 24 — France, Germany and Russia
declared today that a war against Iraq was not justified at
this time and that international inspections to rid Iraq of
its most dangerous weapons were working.
The declaration seemed intended to counter
an American-led plan to introduce a resolution in the
Security Council stating that Iraq had not complied with
demands that it cooperate fully with weapons inspectors.
The document is also certain to deepen the
rift between the United States and Europe over how to
force President Saddam Hussein of Iraq to rid his country of
the remnants of his nuclear, biological and
chemical weapons programs and his ballistic missiles.
If that's what the war is about - who would support it?
I've read a lot of news today - and I'm wondering how to
respond, tactfully and constructively - to some things
gisterme has said.
The story here ought to raise some questions - especially
after the money being paid Turkey.
February 24, 2003 U.S. Officials Push for Iraq Votes
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 6:45 p.m. ET http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/international/AP-Iraq-Vote-Hunt.html
If "legitimate authorization" is to occur in this way - I
have to wonder what legitimate reason France, Russia, and
China might have for letting that "legitimate authorization"
happen.
I'm out for tonight. Maybe I'll feel more tactful in the
morning.

Ministers throw down gauntlet on alternative to nuclear
The government yesterday gave the renewable power industry
five years to prove it can meet a growing share of Britain's
energy needs - in effect leaving the back door open for the
stricken nuclear industry to stage a comeback. Green energy
companies and environmental groups welcomed ministers' clear
determination to meet ambitious targets to cut carbon dioxide
emissions by 60% by 2050 without a revival of atomic power.
But they cautioned that the Treasury would have to commit
substantially more funds if the industry was to gradually fill
the energy gap, and warned that the government's decision to
turn its target of 20% of power from renewables by 2020 into a
mere "aspiration" would deter investment by the City.

Alternatives ... there are usually alternatives ... and
then there's instinct
Human Instinct Will to Win
Genre: Documentary
Host PROFESSOR ROBERT WINSTON reveals how natural chemicals
released into the brain makes winning feel so good and losing
so bad and why humans instinctively compete only when there's
a strong chance of victory, a strategy our ancestors developed
to ensure survival. Learn how evolutionary changes to our diet
not only fuelled brain growth but also catapulted our
competitive instinct into a whole new arena and why brainpower
combined with instincts have made up the most successful
species on earth. Presented by ROBERT WINSTON.
