    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

I told gisterme Friday night that I'd annotate his important 9184 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@28.0bmfavXZ4JM.2264331@.f28e622/10710 and I will get to that tomorrow. Readers who care about American action might want to read it now, before I annotate it, especially if they suspect, as I do, that gisterme is either the President of the United States, or very close to him

Psychwar 375-377 notates issues - discussed on this thread - including the question of who gisterme is, that others might want to judge for themselves. http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/407

Psychwar 279 talks about some key issues, as well - including these links that are very much concerned with missile defense , and mechanisms by which it might be possible to get to right answers by saying, in a systematic way " here, look for yourself." http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/296

Challenge, questions, and invokation of the need for force:

To solve some problems - understanding is key - but power matters, too. Leaders of nation states are going to have to ask for some answers - if they expect to get them - on matters of war, peace, and decency.

"...Better look to a lust for power and brutal imperialism which lives in the hearts of some french people. The suppression of free speech in the French press fuels the fire. Is there a public forum in any major French newspaper?..."

You're right, of course, Fred. That's why I asked Robert to try connecting some dots WRT to motivation behind the actions of the French Government.

"...Here's something solid to refer to:..."

That reference is for adibatic flow...meaning gas flow without gain or loss of heat.

Atmospheric flow across shuttle wings is not adibatic. How do you think all that plasma is formed during reentry?

Once again I'd suggest you stay away from technical topics since you seem to have no clue what you're talking about.

The referece you gave is interesting and correct for gas flow inside a pipe.

"...Punishing crime is a high value. Among others. But most people are concerned about the question of what happens in the future - not just the past..."

WRT Iraq and Saddam Hussein, punishment for his crimes is not now a issue or a driving force behind what's going on. Even though Saddam has the blood of a million on his hands, he will not be punished by the international community if he honors UN resolutions and destroys his WMD and their production capability.

The driving force behind what's going on WRT Iraq right now is about what happens in the future. It's about preventing a proven criminal from repeating his crimes on a global scale. Why can't you grasp that?
