    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Everyone agrees that :

  • Saddam is a bad tyranical leader -- as are others

  • Weapons of mass destruction ought not to be in his hands -- he's used them to kill over and over

  • Human Rights and moral issues are IMPORTANT

  • Peaceful solutions are best

So when does 'PUSH COME TO SHOVE' - how justified?

clarification --- he's used weapons of chemical mass destruction ...

Begging the question --- if he's regarded as a scheming criminal then why isn't he on trial?!

    Gisterme:

I have a simple test which I employ when a situation needs to be recitified. It's the, "If I waved my magic wand."

It's a simple bipolar test which might be of use by or maybe descriptive of Robert!

If I wave my magic wand and President Bush disappeared would the world be a better place. Answer? No!

If I waved my magic wand and Saddam disappeared would the world be a better place? Answer? Yes!

Am I oversimplifing? No! I've lived here in Texas and have heard the critics who disparage Texas and Governor Bush for the execution of criminals. Yet I hear no criticsm of the dictators in the past 50 years who have killed millions. MILLIONS. There was no due process in Pol Pot's killing machine. That goes for many countries in Africa, Asia, and even Europe, (ethnic cleansing and where was France and Germany until America stepped in?)

Your enemy will always find a way to deflect your animus. The propoganda of Saddam is magnificent. Just look at all the alledged intellectuals who have been duped. That's why I turned off Tinkers, to Evers, to Chance!

Sorry but Spring Training is underway and the first pitch will happen in less than 6 weeks. Pass me a Baby Ruth!

Iraq cut the wheat-grain order from Australia when Howard teamed with Bush

On seeing the people of Australia in their NO-WAR parade Iraq re-instated the original order

(Additionally the drought broke and there may be a harvest!)
