    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

The point about companies is that they should connect in concrete ways to their base.

Too many have been over-run and gutted by GREEDY office holders.

Many companies that were 'bricks and mortar', factories and production, real tangible assets are now simply 'agencies' as was Enron.

Agencies have little value - they rely on time-period-throughput - which could be done equally well by a looming competitor.

The JAPANESE have pulled some of their money out of the USA - hence the fall in the dollar ... some has come to Australia - hence the RISE RISE RISE of the Aussie dollar of late.

Folks earn money and look for some place to put it ... as earned. The places and types of investment are 'limited'. The overvaluation of companies is virtual surrealism! The market is said to 'correct back to value' ... meaning it falls until 'blind faith' is restored --- or becomes an 'imagined best option'.

Were the rules and regulations and structures companies operate within better governed and monitored - then the share market should be the place to create wealth from company growth with little risk .... | ... gamblers could 'play' the market with an eye on growth.

As said above 'the shortness of the oncoming IRAQ manouver' is so short that it won't boost productions related to the USA markets.

In any case the US has had a decade to re-stock the military warehouse, since the last Gulf War.

"Gosh!" folks say "I saw the last one."

Where seening and believing were later said to be 'totally different' things ..... lies lies lies and propaganda!

Human Rights - everyone's for the removal of dictators including Mulgabe - so why are Human Rights - so real - so necessary ... so hard to focus upon?

raises the point -- why would George Johnson - connected to the NYT ... spend so much time monitoring and pacing this thread, at great opportunity cost re his time, under multi-monikers

Maybe he isn't lchic. And maybe gisterme's not connected to the administration in any way that matters. These beliefs are now so firmly implanted in your upper ontology I fear they may never be shifted. But speculation is pointless without proof.

"Go and see how the work is proceeding," the Emperor told him, "and come back to let me know."

Commondata's saying that the posts of Showalter, lchic and Almarst2002 are real

whereas

the posts of 'The Poster' et al are all VIRTUAL?

"We're almost finished, but we need a lot more gold thread. Here, Excellency! Admire the colors, feel the softness!" The old man bent over the loom and tried to see the fabric that was not there. He felt cold sweat on his forehead.

"I can't see anything," he thought. "If I see nothing, that means I'm stupid! Or, worse, incompetent!" If the prime minister admitted that he didn't see anything, he would be discharged from his office.

"What a marvelous fabric, he said then. "I'll certainly tell the Emperor."

How did Hans Christian ANDERSON of yore so understand the workings of the US Military Complex ?

Where does that unaudited $350billion go each year ... why does half the US federal budget get 'wasted'!!!!?
