Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

Six in 10 say they'd support using nuclear weapons against
Iraq if it attacked U.S. forces with biological or chemical
weapons. Last week the Bush administration said it was
prepared to use "overwhelming force" — including nuclear
weapons — in response to an attack that used weapons of mass
destruction against the United States, its forces or allies.

what about cruise missiles?
ABM, by definition(anti-BALLISTIC missile) will not work
against 'cruise' missiles. russia and china already have
cruise missile technology, and could easily sell the systems
throughout the world. ICBM's are very expensive and difficult
to develop, especially in secret...potential enemies could
simply concentrate on developing submarine launched cruise
missiles, and we'd be screwed with our useless ABM system that
bankrupted social security.
