Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

11/22/02 1:55pm - - there was some expansion above.
In particular cases - accounting can be pretty
clear.
People always have to make some compromises in
principle - that or pay some very high - usually prohibitive
prices.
In real cases, the question "what does this cost me -
and what are costs to others" can usually be asked - and
can matter enough to answer.

11/22/02 2:00pm - - - I don't have a one sentence -
perfectly general answer that can apply to all cases in nuts
and bolts detail.
But when circumstances are clearly set out - with agreement
about facts, if not feelings - - people very often find ways
to avoid really bad results.
People are not completely merciless (at least, very many
are not) and aesthetic senses, and senses of equity - are
shared enough that we ought to be able to get the incidence of
death and agony from war down - and do some other things - -
without people all becoming geniuses or angels.

Facts are facts and missiles are missiles. If checking are
facts and then checking our missiles and then accounting for
these missile facts then the symmetrically checked dot facts
should all be lined up and accounted for. Someone mentioned
some missile defense facts that's good those facts should be
posted and connected with other facts and symmetrical things.
