    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

But if the United Nations, serving as a conduit of American power, is now worthwhile because it offers the best way for the United States to "legitimize its overwhelming might," how different is that from unilateralism? - http://www.fair.org/media-beat/021121.html

Nukes are 'just applied knowedge'
yawning he said
his audience not listening
had already gone to bed

Way out in the Desert
the man who lost his eyes
a certain Mister Leister
did listen with surprise

The power of explosion
the mushroom of a cloud
the last vision he remembered
as sight
for last-time
bowed

Fifty years now his
life perpetual night

Nukes 'applied knowledge'
he surely shakes his head
lost health
there was no 'safety'
for knowledge was 'denied'!
