    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Maybe, now that the immediate pressure of elections is relaxed, responsible people can afford to look straighter at the real risks we face.

The EMP bomb risk is a big thing.

I hope so Robert, but I don't think we can expect that until Bush gets re-elected to the second term. Ironically, my contempt for Boy King notwithstanding, I will have to root for Bush's re-election if I hope to see more stateman-like foreign policy from US president anytime soon. If democrat beats Bush in 2004, he will have to again prove that he is tough, genuine American leader and waste anotehr 4 years. Hopefully US strategic interests in middle east won't be completely damaged till then. And in fairness to Boy Bush, the threat from Islamic terror is "REAL" and "IMMEDIATE." So therein lies the dilemma, I think.

This is why i am more comfortable in the world of business....things are much mroe clearer...greed and fear are pretty dependable human traits unlike honor, sovereignty, religion, etc etc

manjumicha:

As if the EMP event is something new? My brother-in-law was present at the high altitude Kwajelin tests in '62 when an A-bomb was launched to and detonated at 100+ miles. NASA was chagrined at the damage done to many satellites and the EMP event was studied and actions were taken. The use of Galluim Arsenide in the manufacture of integrated circuits and memory chips hardens the chips from EMP events.

In recent Aviation Week issues the topic of EMP has been mentioned and there is some evidence that we may be testing our own version on flights in the No Fly zone in Iraq.
