Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

"...Is the United States really blameless for the agony
and death in Iraq? How many people, in how many countries,
agree with that? (It wouldn't be hard to check . )..."
It doesn't matter how many people in how many countries
agree with that, Robert. What's important is what's the truth.
But, go ahead and check anyway if it's so easy. I think about
all you could do along those lines is present your feelings
and opinions since I don't recall any recent world-wide
referendums asking that question.

"...- it would only have to ask people in the foundation
community - carefully - and with issues of status and protocol
handled gracefully..."
Foundation community??? Please explain what the foundation
community is, Robert. Is that the same as the emeritus/elite
that lchic was talking about?

"...The suffering of local people in oil zones is a
recurring pattern..."
It shouldn't be, lchic, considering the huge amount of
wealth that flows into those countries from sales of oil.
Can't blame the poor conditions those folks suffer on anyone
outside their own countries. If there is a consistant pattern
of suffering it's the result of a pattern of heartless
leadership in those places.

"...Like many jokes, that one contains more truth than
one would wish..."
Can't disagree with that lchic. That's exactly why we need
a missile defense. If those folks weren't trying so hard to
get nuclear armed ballistic missiles, I might not feel that
way. But they are...
