Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

EU NICEtreaty Ireland
"" Ireland opened the door today to the EU for nearly a
hundred million Eastern Europeans by voting to endorse the
Nice Treaty at the second attempt. Millions who used to live
under communism before 1989 from the Baltic to the Black Sea
now have the right to join one of the richest clubs on the
planet. Approval by the Irish has cleared the last roadblock
to their ambitions to enter the EU.
Romano Prodi, the European Commission President, said
Ireland had given a "green light" to EU enlargement.
