Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

Levy
He gained access to Blair's inner sanctum through his
friendship with the late Labour leader John Smith, a frequent
visitor to Levy's house in Totteridge, north London ....
A homebody, his centre of gravity is his wife Gilda and
their two children. Most of his deal-making takes place over
the heimisch cuisine of Gilda. Tony Blair has been a regular
diner at Gilda's table, as have captains of industry. `Michael
lives a very ethnic life. It's kitchen life, it ain't dining
room life,' says Rea. .....
What Michael does is he picks people, trains them, then
backs them. He is the greatest salesman I have ever met in my
life. He would definitely be able to sell sand to the Arabs.

Budget | Election | USA
"" Opinion polls show that the Republicans score better on
security issues than the Democrats, but worse on the economy
and corporate governance. A poll published at the end of last
week also showed that by a two-to-one margin, voters wanted
candidates in the forthcoming elections to focus on the
economy. Democratic candidates around the country are doing
their best to maximise their advantage in this way. They are
keen to draw attention to the rapidly rising budget deficits
forecast over the next few years, blaming Mr Bush’s tax cuts
for the rich. The Republicans, as they always have, accuse the
Democrats of wanting to spend too much.

Communication glitches on 42nd Street
.. a production especially assembled for Moscow, with
principals and production team -- including two stars and the
director/choreographer of the show's recent award-winning New
York revival -- chorus line, conductor and key orchestra
members all drawn from the elite of North American musical
theater.
Before saying more about the show and those who perform it,
however, a few words are in order concerning criticism of
Moscow's "42nd Street" in a Washington Post article by Susan
Glasser that was printed Tuesday in The Moscow Times.
Toward the end of the article, Glasser, who attended a VIP
preview -- really a final dress rehearsal -- of "42nd Street"
last Friday, admitted that "the American cast and Russian
[sic] orchestra proved to be first-rate." But the story's real
focus was an account of the near-obscenities in a draft
Russian translation of the show's dialogue intended to be
relayed by headphones to its audience's non-English speakers,
and in quoting the complaints of the American production team
and detailing the evening's technical glitches.
