    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Creativity (2) - Knowledge - Kao (Jamming page 8/9)

Kao says it is important to distinguish between different levels of knowledge:

    1. Knowledge as raw material - facts info data

    2. Knowledge as insight - seeing into a stuation, leading to connections defined by inner perception or representaion of knowledge: the "AHa!"
    ( Showalter's dots perhaps?!? )

    3. Ideas - ideas are interconnected insights that we can run with. An idea is a response to what ifs and if only we coulds

    4. knowledge perceived as value to a client or stakeholder
Creativity enables the transformation of one form of knowledge to the next.
    For example:

the nonlinear, discontinuous processing of data leads to the perception of relationships and connections, to insight.

The act of perceiving relationships among insights leads us to ideas, and

the creativity with which we pursue ideas engenders value.
In each case, creativity comes with quantum leaps in insights and understanding that lead to value.

Far from being a simple flash of mental lightning, creativity is a process with grammar.

When we add information technology to the mix of crativity and knowledge, we get a particularly potent conmbination:

capabilities to represent, deploy and track knowledge coupled with technologies to promote collaboration across divergent disciplines and perspectives.

When properly managed the combinatin results in creative combustion.

Looking back over Showalter's recent work one notes he

sifts through for patterns in numbers and data - RAW Knowledge

sees into the data using inner preception, linking, connection (dots)
    develops ideas
perceives the value to the Nation(s)
Above 'the disinformation poster' had a negative comment/response to Showalter's evolving Theory, and yet here is KAO stating that
CREATIVITY and CREATIVE PEOPLE are of the hightest rank within an/any/every entity.
"Looking outside (an entity) for fresh input is crucial. It sounds paradoxical, but we NEED TO KNOW what we DON'T KNOW"

"_____ People need to cultivate awareness. They need to clear their collective minds in order to search for input that is genuinely NEW and PROVOCATIVE of CREATIVE INSIGHTS." (Kao p56)

Kao cites an entity that spends 12% of it's revenue on RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT -- and out shines it's competition (Kao p71)

On Creativity - Kao has concern re Carter's MALAISE speech directed at the nation. Remindes us of FDRoosevelt's legendary "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" challenge.

'The goal is to craft a challenge that resonates.

The trick for every leader is to find a motivational metaphor .... implying a language as well as an icon(s) that integrates thought and feeling ... a three dimensional challenge existing in 'words, images and deeds' .... the metaphor enables comparisons and linkages between the literal reality around us and the figurative reality of the imagination, of the emotions and intuitive possibilites, of dreams and the ability to dare to dream them.' (Kao p103)

Earth vs <^> <^> <^>

...maybe Tesla's energy weapon would be...capable of being developed.

I've read that the HAARP Project has a long range goal of literally setting up Reagan's fantasy BMD "astrodome". It is thought that localized, relatively dense "plaques" of particles might be entrained by radio frequencies. These would be formed in the path of warheads re-entering the atmosphere. At the hypersonic speeds the warheads travel, hitting significantly dense regions would be almost like hitting a brick wall!!! The warhead trajectory would thereby become violently destabalized and thrown way off course or even destroyed.

'hitting significantly dense regions'

This wouldn't happen to be ___________________ would it?
