Science
Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

An LSE voice was heard to comment on the military arming of
countries such as Indonesia and The Philipines - suggesting
that fundamental islam might arise and use those weapons
'against' the USA.
The failure in these nations is that of not having
widespread democracy.
The 'logic' of Indonesia is seen via East Timor, Western
New Guinea, and the putting down of people in culturally
different islands.
The 'logic' is a logic of plunder and greed of natural
resources by 'central' government / military factions.
There was a question as to why the USA had 'withdrawn' from
Asia over the past two decades - was this policy failure a
factor coming home to roost!

Arming the world - how much would those close to the
President ... with links to the arms industry [father-bush's
conflict of interest for example] ... how much would these
guys make from contracts and commissions.
Looking at these already rich .... how much money do they
aim to put in their back pockets .... if these guys had their
wealth - in gold - shackled to their ankles .... how many
would have the strength to cross a room to reach a life saving
glass of water ? Picture that!

Johnson, this is serious - and if you're representing the
NYT in your last posting - the NYT should be ashamed. But I
don't think that's true. I don't think the NYT does business
just that way. YOU should be ashamed.
My "ongoing saga" connects to a great deal. And this thread
has accomplished a lot, some set out in MD 1999 rshow55
5/4/02 10:39am . No thanks to you.
If I'm right that gisterme is Condoleezza Rice , the
thread may be particularly interesting. Somebody posting as
gisterme has done a lot of impressive posting
indicating some significant connections.
If those connections are as high as gisterme
indicates . . . I matter.

In the hour after I posted rshow55
8/1/02 1:53pm almarst2002 deleted 17 postings that
had been made since MD2533 almarst2002
6/14/02 10:13pm . Perhaps this was done as a gesture of
sympathy to Dirac , kalter.rauch , and
Mazza . I'd been interested in a number of the posts
that were deleted. Was glad to see them, and sorry to see them
go.

Mrs Gormley my Latin teacher translated it, "Since these
thing are so" Same genral meaning. Indeed, she always felt
that Caesar was a bit pedantic in his overuse of this
particular phrase.
