Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

Cheney has slipped back into the shadows.
"" His (GWB)approval rating slipped below 70% last week
for the first time since September 11.
But signing the bill, together with his recently adopted
line in angry rhetoric, may not put the Republicans in the
clear, in particular the vice-president, Dick Cheney, who is
embroiled in controversy stemming from his stewardship of the
oil services company Halliburton before he took office.
About 15 minutes' walk from Mr Cheney's former $3m (£2m)
home lies Highland Park Village. This is no typical US retail
centre: its 40 or so shops include Prada, Gucci and Calvin
Klein - no Wal-Mart, Kmart or Piggly Wiggly here - piped
classical music drifts into sharp blue skies, and it lies in
in one of the most prestigious parts of Dallas.
But even in this affluent part of Texas, in what should be
a Republican stronghold, doubts about the administration are
beginning to creep in.
"The scariest thing to me is you really can't trust
people," said Bob Johnson http://www.guardian.co.uk/bush/story/0,7369,765880,00.html

Cheney - doesn't need a day job
"" When he left Halliburton to take office, Mr Cheney
pocketed $36m from cashing in share options and from a
generous farewell package.

Solutions that are politically, physically, and emotinally
workable have to be found and implemented. With decency and
honesty -- including enough decency to check when "trust" is
nothing but negligence -- we can find them.

Lchic's point about "crowd's that don't even know

apply, in some measure, to a newspaper and institution I

Am I, after all, wrong about George Johnson, and his
interactions with me, on the boards and in private
correspondence, over the last four years?
Is it possible that George was doing what he was told to
do, or what people at NYT knew he was doing?
Was Johnson, who MRCOOPER pointed out is a "family man"
with a family to support, being paid by the government to
resist and defame me, with the NYT's knowledge?
It wouldn't necessarily be right for the public, or for
Congressional people to know (thought that might make sense)
It wouldn't necessarily be right for me to know (though I
think it would be.)
But it seems to me that it would be right for the
top people of the NYT, near the masthead, to get themselves
informed about this.
If I've connected some dots wrongly, I also believe I've
done so reasonably here. If I happen to be wrong, on anything
of significance, and can be shown that, I'll hasten to
apologize.
Perhaps, on a few things, some people, George Johnson among
them, might think about apologizing to me. Have people thought
about the situations their actions (and inactions) have put me
in?
I'd like to thank some people, as well.

that need to be tossed out.
The bill Smirk signed is still a long way from what is
needed, it does not compel corporations to expense options
given to management, or better yet, outlaw them completely.
When Ken Lay is doing hard time, Smirk will have some
crediblity, otherwise, he's part of the problem.

For some purposes, I feel that this forum has worked
extremely well . . . .
In very large part, it is valuable because it involves
lchic - - probably the most valuable mind I've ever had
the honor of being in contact with.
And a first-rate animal and human being, as well !
