    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

I've asked for something simple, and basic, that I think people deserve if they are to function.

The language I asked for wasn't complicated. The resistance to the request is interesting.

And after what happened in 1999 - in my opinion, the NYT does have some obligations to me. Which it could fulfill easily - after a little simple negotiation - if it was willing to tell the truth - and when things had to be suppressed - hide information with clear handoffs - that would be clear to me, too.

In the case of this thread - I have an enormous interest in preserving the record - and if my education and background mean anything at all (and I think they do) there's a big public interest in preserving the record. Responsibly.

It's up to YOU (no one else) to keep it.

More than that - if I'm to function as an economic and social actor - especially on large scale work - I have to be able to tell my story - and say what I've said and done.

What makes you "function" is up to you to find out and get resources for it. How do you think THIS thread prevents you from "fuunctioning" ? In fact, just the opposite: You say this thread has been YOUR "work" and you have been "working" very hard on something undefined for 3+ years (even under 'house arrest' and all that).

Are you objecting to DELETION of this thread (=your "work" your "functioning" on it) ? If so, you should realize that it was your own abuse that caused its demise !

Who in the world's stopping you (except yourself) from telling YOUR story ?

What's this interest in ALWAYS blaming others for your difficulties, portraying yourself as if at the mercy of everyone from Eissenhower-Casey to ......, NYT & the rest ?

I don't think the NYT put all this staff work into the thread by mistake, either. They thought it was important.

What paranoia ? Who in the right mind can think of any responsible company doing that, diverting that kind of effort ? Particularly, they apparently did NOT even have moderators checking the thread ?

Why do you keep thinking you POSE such a huge problem to NYT or anyone else ? Self-aggrandizement or a huge complex you seem to have nursed along.

Can't NYT just BLOCK/BAN you, as they reportedly did a few times already ? Or, just delete/remove the entire Forum as they wish, as they're doing tomorrow, because of your forum abuse or any other reason.

Besides, most of your posts are generalities, endless re-hash of them, unsupportable conspiracy and other theories, etc. And, most of your theories implode by themselves, as shown here at least in past 8 weeks.

All I see here is your relentless abuse of the forum privileges -- that you are still determined to continue. Am surprised it wasn't axed or you/lchic BLOCKED/BANNED long long time ago -- and effectively.

Despite how you feel ("happy" that it's over; "leaving gracefully" etc), you STILL have lots of ridiculous demands and legal and other 'threats' at NYT and at different posters.

You and lchic are DEEP, deep in denial -- and are more prone to blame others than see the real reason for axing this thread (your relentless abiuse) or see the light !

It's OVER -- last 24 h (more or less).

Face it !

Jorain , by your standards nobody can check anything at all that actually matters.

For operational reasons - we have to do better than that. And the stakes on the issue are so high, so many times, in so many ways, that they have a big moral dimension.

If nobody can actually check anything that actually matters - that undermines the basic charter - the basic trust - that sustain The New York Times .

You'd do much better on the side of getting right answers - than on the side of resisting the mechanisms necessary to getting them.

The New York Times has been a leader in the idea of connecting the dots - and that ought to continue.

Not only that, I'm going to do my best to insist - within my small power - for a lot of reasons.
