    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

The things Eisenhower warned of in his Farewell Address have happened. We're in a mess - and it would be good to sort some things out - - gracefully.

No one in more "mess" than YOU seem to be ! Think "gracefully" !

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Had a talk with the NYT line guy I've referred to before. I was glad we had a chance to converse - it clarified a good deal for me, and I think for him, as well. I was comfortable with the call, and it seems entirely consistent with what I need for grace - considering the NYT's needs for grace, as well.

I'll be writing a short note to him - and as far as I'm concerned, the sooner the forum closes from here, the better. Though I'd personally be happy to have it archived indefinitely, with a search facility - not that it will be, or should be in the larger scheme of things.

I'm not sure the line guy I talked to knew my key concerns until we talked a little while - - and I wasn't nearly as clear about his concerns prior to talking. Formats do what they do - and a thread like this - superb for some things - is inadequate for others.

cnttub is trying to tell K how to do her job? She said the forum would be shut down on nov. 14th.

Was just trying to make it easier for her [an earlier shut-down) ! Returning a favor !

So, that WAS the fig-leaf you needed ?

"the sooner the forum closes from here, the better": FINALLY, there's something we agree on !

Do whatever you feel like. Doesn't concern the "average NYT reader" on this forum !

bluestar:

Wonder if the forum would now be in its final days, if I (and you & others) had followed the gratuitous suggestions posted here !

"IGNORE" (repeatedly by: WRCooper & Mazza); Waste of time engaging rshow in any debate -- that encourages him to go on (WRCooper); Gisterme (I've NOT been here "long enough" -- and to re-read the 16,000+ posts -- a huge slop -- instead of taking on rshow55).
