    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

On groups ... Cantabb count yourself as a latecomer-regular with a dispostion for the irregular

A latecomer who doesn't belong to anything, certainly not a group of regulars.

Getting the math cleaned up looks possible - it is, from where we stand, mostly a negotiating problem. Mistakes that are 350 years old aren't anybody's fault - ......... Anyway, I worked hard, and kept faith.

Loyalty is fine up to a point, but blind, slavish unquestioning loyalty robs the intellectual independence and honesty you need. Always.

It is my professional judgement, which is obviously fallible - that I've made great headway, with much help from other people, on solving the problems that Eisenhower and his top staffers felt were their showstoppers. Progress made working supervised, working with Steve Kline as a partner, and working with lchic as a partner. I think the biggest and toughest have come into focus working with lchic .

I have no idea what you mean or what work you're talking about. The slavish obedience and unquestioning loyalty may be an asset in some activities but in most others these are the very things that are an anathema to intellectual pursuits.

I think some of the things we've done on this thread offer some evidence of the quality of our work.

An evidence of poor quality, am afraid.

It is time to get past "evidence" and get the work done.

You can't skip "evidence." You'll have to constantly show the 'evidence' of what has been done, why and the rationality of it.

You don't know what you're working on. And have no "evidence" of it or what you have accomplished.

Now I have a better chance than before. Though some may dispute what I say - I can write an honest resume . And find ways to work with lchic . For score, this time. I'm hopeful. And I appreciate the New York Times.

I am glad you feel hopeful. Learn from the criticism, you might do even better.

If you followed the thread blue-y you'd recall Showalter's comment re the 'D' in calculus .... on how he became a hidden asset ... the invisible man .... akka Ruby Tuesday -- a man with 'no past' ...

I take it Eisenhower never invited you home Blue-y ... no wonder!
