    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

NEW DELHI: India test-fired its Brahmos supersonic anti-ship cruise missile, which it jointly developed with Russia, on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry said. The Brahmos has a target range of 290 kilometers and can carry up to 300 kilograms pounds of conventional warheads, Press Trust of India news agency reported. “The Brahmos was successfully test-fired Wednesday in a routine operation,” said Amitabha Chakrabarti, the Defense Ministry spokesman.

Brahmos, named after India’s Brahmaputra river and Russia’s Moscow river, is primarily an anti-ship missile but can be used against land targets as well.

The missile can be launched from land, sea and air and is expected to be ready for production by 2004.........

More of the same from 'The Count of Cliches' & 'Prince of Platitudes':

Some profound facts are very "routine"

Wow. Is it possible that "Some profound facts" may be NOT "very routine" ? Just a wild guess !

I don't have to be especially smart to sort out a lot.

No worry.

In some basic ways, we're all the same

Really. Are some more 'the same' than others ?

Some very powerful self-organization is going on. In essentially all people.

Really ? What a revelation !

People do have an excellent chance of finding truths that matter. Sometimes even new ones.

"An excellent chance" ?

But what does it take to find them ("truths," not 'THE' truth, for a change !]

And, how many are entrusted with the responsibility of finding these "truths." Or are ordained to do so ? Say, by Casey-Eisenhower ?
