    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Gisterminator,

There are 6billion dots on the naked planet ... Only the Rnames have been changed to protect the Rinnocent.

The strongest defence for an elite minority of dots against the majority of dots, is:

E PLURIDOT UNUM!

(Abraham Linkdotz)

Of course there is always this option:

The strongest defence for an elite minority of dots against the majority of dots, is:

DOTTICA!

(Adolph Dotler)

"...What do you think Gisterme - can you empathise with Showalter's position ... don't you think he should be freed up to live!?..."

...

...

Hmmm. ...

...

...

Naa. Rshow loves his misery. He's the only one who can "free himself up" (IMHO) so I have no say in that. Ask him. He seems happy enough the way he is.

" If the world were synchronized to work in harmony...then we wouldn't need taxation revenues. " Gisterme

----

"...Gisterme the US spends almost 100% of incoming taxes on military-simplex .... but not quite!"

Well, lchic, I think you may be exaggerating that percentage JUST a bit (cough); but so what. :-)

Even if what you say were true that just means that the world is not synchronized to work in harmony. So get with it! Go dig up some old Soviet land mines...

...or else, just face it.

IF only the world were synchronized to work in harmony...

IF only wishes were fishes...

Oh my.

"...DOTTICA!..."

There! That's more like it! :-)

TRUTH outs ultimately : TRUTH has to be morally forcing : build on TRUTH it's a strong foundation

Doesn't seem that happy to me!

Nor does the guy who came on the thread ... these research guys like to do things their country can be proud of ... and be first off the mark ... beat the rest of the world --- seems Showalter is a top bigLeaguer player whose government have made him sit-out on the bench ... and if the UK take the prize when they know they could have had it ... regrets - there'll be a few ... and Gisterme would just say "Tough!" in his boot-camp register.

Gisterme - landmines from C20 will still be around in C22 ... don't you think? A long-term danger without a die-by date ... and it's people who die ........ at the time the mines are laid and on and on ... but these people are others/elsewhere not Americans.

Were the countries who manufacture/lay mines both responsible for removing them and paying compensation to victims of mines ... the holistic approach, then, 'Market Failure' would ensure their demise.

Folks no longer pour 'hot tar' over each other in warfare .... times move on!

History - looking back - shows us that even the little league players - the counties : parcels of land within Nation States - used to fight each other.

History - and the EU - shows us that fusing countries into an economic block stops wars.

------

There are big trading blocks being created : Europe, Asia, North America etc

The laws and rules of the block will require stability.

The world is a big trading block too - so why can't it fuse together, in peace, to trade and maximise returns to individuals who are seeking the highest quality of life - with peace.

What's the real difference between a neighbouring county of yore and two neighbouring countries.

What are the similarities between two neighbouring countries - of today and at war - and the counties of yesterday?
