    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Friedman - has concern about 'the dots'

wrt the 'OLD DEAL' start-up countries are protesting about

a playing field that isn't level when the Advanced Economies 'look after' their rural sectors

it was put forward that start-up contries should process from plant fibre (cotton) to finished goods ... to fashion item ... fine ... but how (cost training and set-up) is the infrastructure laid in place to ENABLE

so where do the dots fit in?

what are the dots?

and how can appropriate 'dots'

limit the need for MD expenditure ---

bringing us back full circle to this board

Friedman didn't dither over dots ... he saw that worldwide the disadvantaged are looking for bigger and better dots - a fairer share of world economic pie

  • LOL
Can such an application of science be successful?
  • Science .... where do people figure? Go figure!
Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?
  • Prioritisation -- there may be more important issues -- the ozone layer depletion over the antartic sees a vortex of circling winds that are pulling regular rains south .... leaving southern continents with drought in the 20-35 latitudes

People are basically 'social animals'

The have a sense of 'fairness'

MD technology can be used for posturing / Bulling

Bullying implies intimidation

Looking at NKorea .... is it the Nuclear Fight Out .... that will resove the situation

or

High level communication leading to agreements that guarantee NK a role and 'place' in the Twenty-First Century?

All the money used for military expenditure over the past sixty years ... had it been used for peace-ful development .... commerce, industry, development of services .... for the globe

What would now be the status quo

How would worldTrade meets be run

Who would have representation

What would the 'skill level' of the globe be?

If life's about making the right choices

Why - for the world's sake - haven't more 'right choices' been made

Is the world driven by randomness or good planning --- and how are resources allocated?

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Showalter - noticed some criticism that you weren't 'straight to the point', that you were slow, repetitive ...

Are these points you're not 'straight to' existing 'points'

or

Are they 'new points'

How long did it take science to get to the 'new point' (Newton) that F=MA
  • A matter under active consideration for thousands of years
Showalter ... is it important to arrive at new - definitive - points - carefully ... why so? Do these new cultural 'dots' have to be 'right' from all perspectives?
