    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

I've no idea why NYT keeps this Forum. It's a mystery. However, Missile Defence is much more than just technology. Its about resolving human CONFLICT first and foremost. The best missile defence comes not from employing technology which can pauper a country and remain unused but from understanding human conflict. Most of the posts on this forum deal with that issue and are thus perfectly on topic.

But THAT's your interpretation, NOT what the Forum Header says. Besides, this Forum is supposed to be a "SCIENCE" forum.

If this forum offends certain folks like Cantabelle to the point where they say 'Shut it down but Am not holding my breath.'

User name is 'Cantabb' !

You forget the other suggested alternative: Move it to 'political', international and other groups of Fora, where political aspects of conflict resolution may already be under discussion. It has NOTHING TO do with 'Science'.

Then I would have to say, on behalf of Rshow and in the truest Missile Defence strategy "Go ahead .. Make our day ".

You miss the context in which this bravado is properly used.

The abuse of Forum is much too obvious -- Wonder how can NYT keep missing it.

.... Missile Defence is much more than just technology.

We know that ! And, this a "Science" forum.

Its about resolving human CONFLICT first and foremost. The best missile defence comes not from employing technology which can pauper a country and remain unused but from understanding human conflict.

Human conflicts are NOT resolved by ad nauseam rehash of personal anguish, problems and activities, and nebulous, unfocused ramblings about anything and everything.

Most of the posts on this forum deal with that issue and are thus perfectly on topic.

You MUST NOT see what OTHERS see ! Just review the posts since my first post here yesterday !

Cantabelle,

You're happy to come here and waste bandwidth. Yawn!

When you can come up with something even remotely as significant and appealing as a KAEP or Rshow's towed PV array then I may treat you with some respect. If it took 50,000 posts to come up with these ideas it would still be economical.

All you ever do is 'crow' and parrot news copy.

If I were you I'd just put me on ignore.

In the mean time this forum is alive ie. happening ... despite your complaints to the moderator ... get used to it. No need to wonder at all!

Cantabelle,

ONCE AGAIN, it's Cantabb, fredmoore !

IF you're interested in a civilized exchange, that is. Don't try to reduce the exchange to such juvenile levels.

I recall some of our previous exchanges on another forum.

You're happy to come here and waste bandwidth. Yawn!

What else do you think has been happening here for over 13,700 posts ? And my 3 posts elicit wasting "bandwidth" ? A "Yawn" from you ?

When you can come up with something even remotely as significant and appealing as a KAEP or Rshow's towed PV array then I may treat you with some respect. If it took 50,000 posts to come up with these ideas it would still be economical.

Nonsense.

What ideas ?

News reports, 'Mister Rogers', and personal stories are NOT 'ideas', are they ? May be to you !

Remember, I just made 3 out of 50,000 posts here. And that too on the abuse of the posting privilege on this Forum !

All you ever do is 'crow' and parrot news copy.

You must NOT have read my posts carefully.

Discussions (even non-scientific ones as here) are initiated by introducing a subject/news report etc. NEVER seen any news copies posted here, ad infintum ? And, 'parroting' the same news copies over and over, ad nauseam ?

If I were you I'd just put me on ignore.

Why you ? IF you assume my posts were directed ONLY & SPECIFICALLY to you, you're mistaken.

Besides, I don't do THAT sort of thing. And you're NOT that important; No body is.

In the mean time this forum is alive ie. happening ... despite your complaints to the moderator ... get used to it. No need to wonder at all!

Days may be numbered !

ANYTHING ON-TOPIC "Missile Defense" from you or the like-minded posters ?
