Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

Top U.S. Officials Urge Bigger Role for United Nations
in Iraq By BRIAN KNOWLTON, International Herald Tribune http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/07/international/middleeast/07CND-POLI.html
WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 — Senior United States
officials called today for an expanded United Nations role
in Iraq, but they gave no hint of what the United States
might be willing to concede in the Security Council
negotiations to gain support from countries like France,
Russia and Germany, which strenuously opposed the war.
Condoleezza Rice, the national security
adviser, said today that "the time is right" for a larger
United Nations role in Iraq — a position announced by the
administration last week. Secretary of State Colin L. Powell
said separately that he hoped for "specific suggestions"
from fellow Security Council members on how a draft
resolution might best achieve that goal.
"Everybody wants to do this in a cooperative
spirit," Ms. Rice said.
She and Mr. Powell, in separate appearances,
were speaking several hours before President Bush was set to
deliver a major speech to the nation on Iraq, his first
speech on the subject from the White House since he
announced the start of the war in March.
Ms. Rice said the president would warn
Americans of sacrifices and "a difficult struggle" ahead.
But he would also defend the need to spend what it took to
rebuild and guide Iraq to free elections, saying that "the
war on terrorism will be tremendously well served by victory
in Iraq."
Sounds pretty good to me. Maybe I should think about a
cooperative spirit .
The Music Man http://216.39.194.181/songs/songs_text.php
is a great show - great literature - and includes a fine song:
The Sadder But Wiser Girl
" No wide-eyed, eager, wholesome,
innocent Sunday-school teacher for me . . .
Maybe things will get better. The Israelis and the
Palestinians want to get to peace (sort of, in their
muddled way.) The Iraqis want things sorted out. A lot
of people in the UN want to sort things out - and
know they need the United States.
All the same, sometimes clarity has its uses.
Maybe negotiations and arrangements can work better, this
time around.

Robert,
Music man:
Yes sir we got trouble ... and that starts with T and that
rhymes with G and that stands for Gisterme ... yes sir we got
trouble right here in MD forum city central.
Good choice Robert!
I prefer this:
'Write to Fredmoore for a list of things he and Rshow have
done to keep this thread's damage to a maximum.'
No need for a list ....
the point's not missed
we need a bigger plan
and it goes like this:
First, answer the question: "Who are we and What do we
want?"
And the answer friends is EMERGY .. and ... that starts
with 'E' and that rhymes with 'KEY' and that starts with 'K'
and that stands for .... 'KAEP'.
Yes sir that's A Kyoto Alternative Energy Protocol. A
gently staged program for ALL nations to explore what it is
that people really want and then deliver it without
interference in national sovereignty.
And don't forget the F.B.I. ...... Fuel breakdown by
(precision ) Radiation!

When George Bush visits Sydney after the Asia Pacific
Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit in Bangkok, which finishes
on October 21, I hope he will take some time to visit Moore
Reserve at Kogarah.
Not just to see a first rate, world class engineered
wetland but also to experience and feel its Thermodynamic
ambience firsthand.
