    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Ideally, prototypes are supposed to be worked out "on paper" - and then at small scale - so that the mistakes and muddles are small scale - before the things that are worked out come to be tested, understood, and trusted - and used at a larger scale.

I think of this thread as a sort of an experiment - a prototype - awkward in spots - useful in others. Missile Defense isn't the only thing discussed - and hasn't been since I was directed onto this thread on Sep 24, 2000.

I've been honored to have had the chance to post on this thread - and have been especially honored that someone who seems to have high connections to the Bush administration (or who works hard to simulate them) - has given the thread the time and attention that gisterme has.

Maybe some things have been focused and learned. Some days, and this is one of them, I feel that progress has been made, and that more progress will be.

Between March 2001 and March 1, 2002, gisteme posted about 750 times, and since March 1, 2002 he's posted about 520 more times.
