Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have
done and worked for on this thread.
Gisterme may be "unconnected with the
government" - but I have a right to wonder about that -
and have reservations about what he says. Though there's been
some waffling, Gisterme has continued to function as a
"stand-in" for the Bush administration on this thread since
the middle of 2001.
If somebody in the Bush administration was doing that,
without GWB's approval - my guess is that that someone would
have been stopped by now.
My guess is that anyone in the United States would have
been contacted, and asked to stop, if Bush had disapproved.
The US government has to know exactly who
gisterme is.

Others may be able to figure out "the odds of that" better
than I can. People have to think for themselves, at
some basic levels.
Decision making/tree, expert systems ... often a
decision is common sense .. when a framework is required then

I've been trying to do my duty. So has lchic. I
think we're both proud of the accomplishments described and
put in context in MD1999 http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/WebX?8@13.BH8QbYYuywy.3406099@.f28e622/2484
If you want to trace a lot of detail about gisterme's
contributions since March 1, 2000 , click 207 http://talk.guardian.co.uk/WebX?14@@.ee7a163/218
, read it, and then search "gisterme" and "stand in or
stand-in"
Leaders make mistakes , and in the real world, it is
impossible to avoid that. But leaders are responsible ,
and are expected to do their duty.
It seems to me that if the people involved on this thread
act so that what they do (whether it "comes out" or not)
could be "written up in The New York Times" in
ways that "the average reader of the New York Times"
would respect - a lot of things that are now very
dangerous could be much safer and go much better.
I'm trying to meet that standard.
Nobody has to be a saint. But lies are unstable -
for decent action - and stability - there needs to be good
information, and right answers.
