Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Can we do a better job of finding truth? YES. Click "rshow55" for some things Lchic and I have done and worked for on this thread.

Wonderful articles today - a person can be overwhelmed with them. But the quality is high, and I found these particularly interesting with respect to this thread - and some of the complications associated with it.

It make a difference whether or not information is disclosed in a form people can use - and this is a fine public service:

There are stories about Nixon that seem related to some stories I've told on this thread, that have difficulties with collaboration - and that happened a long time ago. 12499-12500 rshow55 6/12/03 11:43am

And an excellent piece on problems with memory and false memory - that provides clear context on the question of what can, and cannot, be "proved." The key point is that the things that happen in our mind are virtual - and sincerity is not the test for veracity. Questions of fact need to be checked, when that's possible. It isn't always - but usually, when things matter enough, we can get to a workable understanding - if we work at it, and assume that people can be mistaken, for "innocent" and not-so-innocent reasons - and that's true of everybody.
