Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

If you search fredmoore , there's so much good to
read. I like this:

With Middle East oil mostly in the hands of nations less
advanced and decent than Turkey - we've got reason to be
careful.
'Honor Killings' Defy Turkish Efforts to End Them By

But the answer is to do what we do well - not to
lower our standards.

Defining terror's a pretext
what will you think of next
in your desire to show care
for boat people
to come to the fair
come willy nilly
from everywhere
come willy nilly?
you are so silly.

Reprise:
"" Keneally said it cost as much to house an asylum seeker
on Christmas Island or Nauru under the Government's "Pacific
Solution" as it would to put them through a medical degree at
Sydney University "with beer money on the side". ""
I think I have shown
Keneally's wrong
as other costs apply
But they're unseen
so your esteem
bids you poke me in the eye.
In Maslow's heirachy of terror
you must as ever
take care first of vital needs.
National security to you it seems
is logic skewed
beyond most savage deeds?
PS.
Advance Australia FAIR.

Did others notice the very nice image of Condoleezza Rice
that appeared in the paper yesterday (on A5 in the National
Edition) associated with this article?
, C.I.A. Chief Takes Blame in Assertion
on Iraqi Uranium By DAVID E. SANGER and JAMES RISEN http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/12/international/worldspecial/12INTE.html
The internet image doesn't begin to do her justice.
Looking at the print image, I was struck by the resemblence
NSA Rice showed to Ingrid Bergman in Casablanca
- - where Bergman acted the part of an intelligent, beautiful
woman - under stress, not backing down, and in full possession
of her faculties.
I'm sure the President is man of great self possession -
but if he isn't at least a little bit in love with Rice, I
suspect I might be. A lot of men would be.
An illustrated script of Casablanca http://www.edict.com.hk/movies/casablanca/casablanca1.htm
I've discussed my admiration for Ms. Rice before - here's a
good humored exchange between me and gisterme that
touches on the point. http://www.mrshowalter.net/a_md4000s/md4866.htm
