Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a
nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a
"Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed
considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense
initiatives more successful? Can such an application of
science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable,
necessary or impossible?

A 'news_count' of world problems today - as compared to
Ike's days in the sun -- much of the world still runs like a
horror movie!

I live in a Tourist-Mecca ... a picture
postcard downUnder wonderland ... deserts, mountains, seas
... until tourism globally got all SARS'd out ... one little
virus put the question
'Is your journey really necessary'
into travel logs!

Still looking for the 'postcard' Showalter?
A docco on HK and SARS that followed the epidemic begs an
important question on foot-controls ... why aren't flushing
systems, hand basins, door-openings .... all done via either
beams or footcontrols ... noted too that HK plumbing standards
had a sewage pipe (rusted/leaking) actually running down the
kitchen wall within a meter of the 'cooking' ... the film also
showed the virusFertile meat (live/dead) of S. China.

Simple issues that are matters of life and death.
"Simple" once they are seen and understood.
Most public health issues are like that.

lchic - 12092 makes a fair comment - more important
than the postcard:
Showalter - hard to imagine 'YOU'
condensing-down to a small postcard :)
I can be succinct at times. But I'm nowhere near as
good at condensing ideas - and doing it gracefully - as
lchic - and I don't know anybody else who is.
Maybe the NYT has a whole stable full of writers who are as
good as she is at that - but somehow, if they do - I've missed
it.
