    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Read Debates, a new Web-only feature culled from Readers' Opinions, published every Thursday.

"...Mark Twain nailed it, didn't he?"

It would seem that some things are just timeless, Lou.

To get Almarst's 'King Fahd' link, add

":.sthml'

at the end of the line and place it in the address window of your browser.

Personally, having read the article, I find the Saudi 'double speak' both fractious and alarming.

"Very interesting ... but SCHNEAKY ... Jah"

BTW, who is this God they defer to? ... Can't be Allah. Seems more like the holy god of CRUDE to me! Any God who doesn't allow room for human rights and freedom of speech is going to have a hard time 'making it' in tomorrow's world ... unless he has a few NUKES or a sh*tload of oil.

I found it alarming as well.

Giving the situation, I would suggest changing the "God Bless America" to "God Help America".

The MIRROR to the FACE of "god loving nation"

BAGHDAD: The sound of screaming filled the maternity ward at the Elwiyah Hospital on Tuesday, as women rushed to give birth ahead of an impending US invasion.

Many pregnant women demanded to have caesareans rather than risk delivering their babies during war, even though they were sometimes well short of their natural due date. - http://jang.com.pk/thenews/mar2003-daily/19-03-2003/world/w7.htm

The MIRROR to the FACE of "god loving nation":

If war starts, tonnes of depleted uranium (DU) weapons are likely to be used by British and American tanks and by ground attack aircraft. - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_depth/2860759.stm

U.S.'S Image Fast Eroding With War Plans http://www.abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20030318_1784.html

A poll released Tuesday shows that U.S. favorability ratings have plummeted in the past six months, both in countries that oppose war and countries that support it.

Bush clings to dubious accusations - http://www.msnbc.com/news/886806.asp

As the Bush administration prepares to attack Iraq this week, it is doing so on the basis of a number of allegations against Iraqi President Saddam Hussein that have been challenged — and in some cases disproved — by the United Nations, European governments and even U.S. intelligence reports.
