Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's
war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars"
defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make
the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an
application of science be successful? Is a militarized space
inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Let's take one tiny and almost forgotten example of US policy
toward Cuba.
This country never was a treat to US. They have no WMD and try to
maintain a good relations with their neighbors. Actually, they play
a very positive role in stopping the flow of narcotics and criminals
in the area.
Nevertheless, the US maintains a draconian economic and political
sunctions against this tiny nation. Why? Just because of the wishes
of a small minority of Cuban exile community in Florida. Surelly
against the interests of a vast majority of the overall population
in US. Why the US media does not raises this issue? Instead, it
obediently projects the US Govenmental policy promoting the image of
evil Communist enclave at a doorstep of the "Greatest Democracy". If
the US is against dealing with non-democtatic countries, it should
reject a good portion of its current dear-harts and protegees, not
speaking of sunctions. Not to mention all those bloody dictatorships
the US actively helped to establish and protected.
How can one trust the intentions and honesty of such a neighbor?

Northwoods: A Plan for Terror to Justify War Comments by

The Northwoods plan for staging phony attacks on the U.S. to
justify invading Cuba was developed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff in
1962. It was never implemented, perhaps due to fear of Soviet
retaliation.

RShow55:
What do you do when you are confronted with a mad forum poster
who will not abide the rules. Is a pre-emptive strike an option.
You've been banned once and yet your behavior is not changed.
Why have we been at war with North Korea for over 50 years? Why
is there no raproachment with Castro's Cuba. Remember several years
ago when his "mighty" Migs downed a civilian aircraft which had
violated Cuban airspace while distributing leaflets?
You are a prime example of the "If Only..." crowd. "If only
everyone in the world gave everyone else a back rub there would be
no war." OR "If only everyone would be caring as me, (fill in your
name), the world would be so much better!
You're boring!

Lou,
One of the questions you asked was "Is a militarized space ...
necessary..."
It seems some of the discussions we have are directly related to
this. Don't you agree?

The Pope helping Nazi's to escape at the end of WWII is not on
point. The constant reference to ENRON as if 8 years of
Clinton-speak was any different. Mind you, Clinton was impeached!
The fact that the Senate didn't do it's duty is another thing.
These are all nice and all but they have nothing to do with
missile defense.
As I said, RShow55 has once again taken over this forum as his
own little web site bought and paid for by the NYTimes. Is it time
for him to be blocked AGAIN?

Ken Starr was wanting to impeach Bush. Missile Defense topic -
YES - Right ON! Ken Starr - Village Voice last August had concerns
regarding the CONFLICT OF INTEREST relating to the President
allocating Defense orders to the companies his father is directly
connected with!

mAzzA - when you say, in a Nazi-bully-manner, that a particular
poster has taken over the thread. What exactly are you really
saying ..... ? And to whom are you appealing - that is if you
are appealing ?

Professor Slatery (Berkley) was on Oz tv tonight in a science
segment on missiles.
As above on this thread, the program noted that counter strike
work has been going on since 1946 - unsuccessfully.
The USA military guy used this phrase "Capability still in
the development phase"
Patriot missiles in the gulf war could not, from the data, to be
seen to have stopped one missile.
The recent 'tests' where guided to target. It was said that
in a real situation with decoys the chance of a true hit was a very
limited 'chance'. Chances improved if, with respect to firing, the
'when' 'where' 'how' and 'what' ... were known factors. Not a real
situation.
Slatery said the proposed future system of covering and defending
the USA with an umbrella re starWars was too complex to work.
He said removal of the USA from the agreement of 1972 would
create an escalating domino effect re China, India, Pakistan and
other regions.
This isn't good for the world -- yet may be good for demands for
military weapons .... where Father Bush has interests that give him
vast financial rewards!
It seems everyone knows starwars is a fraud, from the physisists
through to journalists, and Congress ....
If Congress know this - as they must - and if Congress
controls budgets ... then why doesn't Congress deflect cash away
from war toys to useful stuff that could assist in building the USA
economy and the economies of the second world.
If the TRUTH IS KNOWN - Why do the lies persist?

Robert
Fisk: Europe must stop parroting the American script in the
Middle East
'condemnation of Mr Bush's policy by the French and German
foreign ministers and by Nato's leadership is real enough. Let us
have done with crusades and the "war on terror". Let's have some
justice '
