    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

Mazza, I'll go into more detail here on reflective decals. But this thread has a search function -- you, and the people you talk to, can find a lot by searching "reflective AND decal."

Something else you could search involves language I wrote to a well connected Republican with distinguishd connections to the University of Wisconsin, about a year ago.

"My own view, now, is that we may be in the middle of the cleanest, neatest, fairest, most beautiful, most bloodless resolution of a paradigm conflict in the history of science. That would be something we could all be proud of, and, in my opinion, might set a precedent that would be of long service to the United States of America."

There have been some bad patches in relations between me and the UW (and there have been some infelicities on this thread as well) - and that hope hasn't come to fruition yet. Things may turn out worse, because of some limitations of circumstances and people, myself included. . But there's reason to hang onto that hope. I repeated that language, to other people connected with U.W., recently.

A similar hope may apply to resolutions involving missile defense, though that, of course, that may also turn out worse than one might wish. Sometimes good resolutions happen. Especially when people consider human beings as they are, and needs as they are.

It helps to consider human needs. "Maslow" has been mentioned on this thread a number of times, to review some issues that need to be considered, for individuals and groups, so that things can be sorted out so that they can work.

Perhaps "enron" should become a verb.

We should avoid "enroning" this situation. If we play it straight, with fair accounting of facts, priorities, and costs, we might come to some good answers. That make the United States safer and more prosperous, and the world as well.

RShow55:

Stealth Coating is not the same as reflective decals. I performed a search and did not find your thread, (sorry not a good advanced searcher I guess).

As I thought about defeating the "reflective decals" I realized that YOu could aim at the exhaust plume. A quick traverse of less than 1% up and down the plume would result in the laser beam striking the rocket motor nozzle! Burn a hole in the nozzle or strike a nozzle actuator and the missile might blow up or be diverted by a rocket motor not responding to guidance commands.

Mazza, on the difficulty of searching -- there is a button below here. A red button. It says "SEARCH" . Hit it. Enter "decal AND reflective" - - . You should be able to do this.
