    Missile Defense

Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars" defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an application of science be successful? Is a militarized space inevitable, necessary or impossible?

From 1900 to 2000 the United States, far and away, gave the most in the way of blood, sweat and tears to make this a better world. We fought WWI ostensibly to contravene the Kaiser. Wilson's idea of a League of Nations was meant to establish the rule of law and the rights of the individual in political systems. All those European empires "disappeared" but the US disengaged and look what happened...WWII.

WWII was fought to complete the WWI realignment. We not only beat up our enemies we "converted them" In the case of Japan, MacArthur wrote their constitution and tricked them into becoming Americanized by introducing ..ahem..Baseball. theyr're a close friend and still ignored by our foreign policy wonks.

Would anyone care to speculate what would have happened if Germany and Japan had won!

By 1990 we had won the Cold War and along the way changed much of the world for the better, whether it's the Green Revolution, the combating of disease or the ubiquitous CARE packages which have fed and clothed the world.

You claim, that "We fought W.W.I ostensibly to contravene the Kaiser". That was, No one else, just the US....

You say, you "converted them" You have clearly not visited either Japan or Germany! Indeed ask yourself why both Japan and Germany are strongholds for terror groups run by the likes of Osama bin Laden to equip and raise funds in their fight against imperialism.

You go on to say "Would anyone care to speculate what would have happened if Germany and Japan had won". Nevertheless, they did win! No one came and fed the UK for free post WW2 no one came and rebuilt our cities for free...

As to your remark "Green revolution" I strongly suggest you speak with your own ecological groups concerning Kyoto, etc, etc.

You say by "1990 we had won the cold war" if that is so, why are you having to allow Moscow and Beijing to eradicate in Russia the peoples of Chechnya and in China the peoples of the north-western region of Xinjiang. Is the cold war won… due to concern in both Russia and China President Jiang signed a friendship pact with President Vladimir Putin, based largely on the two governments' mutual opposition to the US missile defence plans.

If all this is your idea of making the world a better place! I would hate to visit a world you made worse?

You say "I get alittle upset when the US is blamed for all that has gone wrong and given no credit for the contributions it has made". Respectfully I have not blamed the US for all that has gone wrong in the world.

Moreover nor do I feel inclined to praise the gods for "power lines" that induce Cancer. Nor would I get as excited as you, about the wonders of "Walmart" whom only enslave suppliers so they exploit labour ww. "Housing", having been to Zolpho [forgive spelling] Springs in Florida and to a housing project in St Louis I would not wish one of your comfortable homes for even the poorest thank you?

All I am saying regarding missile defence is that the US could spend those billions better on looking after its poor and disabled rather on a missile defence shield that will not defend it moreover gives credence to the likes of OBL that the US is an imperialistic machine....

Furthermore Star Wars does nothing but destabalise. None of us nor our countries is perfect so lets stop thinking we are.

Whatismore Afganistan is like it is because, no one really cared..... and a high energy biscuit now, is not the answer! The US and UK stating whom will govern, blah blah blah... is less than helpful no one has realised that this is a Islamic state and its not for Blair or Bush to dictate whom will govern them, indeed we all forget the geriatric King we all now love was kicked out by his own family...... Oh well so its ok for democracies to now create Kingdoms?

Well said, Lou!
