Technology has always found its greatest consumer in a nation's
war and defense efforts. Since the last attempts at a "Star Wars"
defense system, has technology changed considerably enough to make
the latest Missile Defense initiatives more successful? Can such an
application of science be successful? Is a militarized space
inevitable, necessary or impossible?

UK: We need the brightest and the best, people with flair,
the X-factor, the capacity to come up with insights.' ..The
Secret Intelligence Service, MI6, has begun a massive recruitment
campaign following the 11 September terrorist attacks, which will

.. 'Since the demise of the Soviet Union, the thinking has been
that you needed an intelligence service to keep an eye on the
various regional, cross-border conflicts, which might get out of
hand. No one really thought MI6 was about countering lethal
threats to the motherland. For the foreseeable future, that has
now changed.'

CONGRESS: Leaders From Both Sides Strongly Support
President By REUTERS http://www.nytimes.com/2001/10/07/national/07WIRE-CONG.html
The attacks killed about 5,600 people.
Rough balance in deaths, now. I hope that the military-diplomatic
results justified the deaths.
We'll see.
I hope that as large a fraction as possible of those who died
were closely identified with Bin Laden's forces.
